Labor Day

We have a very good crop of tomatoes this year.  We watered during the dry July days and avoided early and late blight.

For our first harvest we gathered some of the larger varieties for canning.

We grew some heirloom varieties that we purchased from Jane Kuitems at her herb farm in Webster.   We have several varieties that we purchased that day, but didn't track the individual plant names --Sorry!

They are producing very well, and we have been enjoying them peeled and sliced every day.

Here one is framed by another ceramic frog and some kitchen cacti.

The heirloom varieties were joined by other nursery varieties from Lucas Greenhouses, including Big Boys and Early Girls.    Many of these fourteen quarts will be paired with macaroni and cheese for some delicious winter meals.  We may be canning more of these later in September.... We'll see!
