Q=A=Q Opening at Schweinfurth

The 33rd Annual Juried Quilt Exhibition, Quilts=Art=Quilts, opened at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY.  The opening was very well attended, and several of the participating artists were there.

Several members of our group, the Art Quilt People (better known as "The Peeps"), are shown here.  We sponsored one of the awards given at the show.

We are posed in front of Pat's quilt, for which she won an Honorable Mention Award.  (Pat, Marcia, Carol, Nancy, Bev, Jeanne, and Anne.)

The Best of Show Award went to Judy Kirpitch for Anxiety No. 6.

First Prize went to Kit Vincent for Megantic.

The Schweinfurth Award for Design Excellence went to Gerri Spilka for Edge #2.

This is my quilt, Icicles.

Sheila Framton-Cooper flew in from California for the weekend just to participate in the opening.  This is her piece, Red Dragon.

Last harvest

The last of the veggies were harvested from the garden.  Most years the winter squash don't produce this well, so now we just have to figure out what to do with our bumper crop!

Millie ("the Momma Kitty") likes to be nearby, but in the safety of the raspberry bushes, while we're working in the garden.

Millie checks out her daughter, Sophie, but keeps her distance.

In the meantime, her son, Toby, has discovered a comfy sewing basket in the studio.

Meeting day

The "Peeps" (Art Quilt People) held their October meeting, and we had a chance to see what work had been done and/or was underway.

Nancy shared her sketches and starting blocks inspired by African houses.

This is Anne with two of her quilts that served as a jumping off point for new work that she explored at a class with Nancy Crow.

Sale at Priscilla's

Our friend Priscilla is downsizing and moving to a smaller house, and she held a yard/garage sale that attracted many quilters and sewers.

This was just some of the fabric that lined the driveway and was being sold by the pound.

More boxes of goodies in the garage and den held books, yarns, buttons, trims, and more.  There were also sewing machines, jackets, household items, toys, etc.

Priscilla got to sit and take a short break, while her friend, Vi (on the left), helped a shopper bag up her purchases.

Bev found a wonderful chest handmade by Priscilla's father-in-law that included drawers and compartments with tools.  It will look beautiful in her living room.   And it just fit into her new car -- so it was meant to be!
