Our first "real" snowfall.
The weatherman predicted it was coming for several days beforehand, only then he called it a "snow event." I think that meant he didn't know how much snow we were going to get.
As it got closer, though, we were told it could be between 14 and 18 inches -- and that's about what we got.

The December meeting of the Peeps was at Pat's house and was complete with Xmas goodies and a lovely lunch.
Addie was on hand to greet us and keep us company.
Bev showed us her completed Sumac Leaves piece, made with her hand-dyed fabrics.
A detail of the quilting on Sumac Leaves.

The mild December days allowed us to get a head start on Spring chores.
We have cleaned out the everbearing red raspberry plot and have the 1969 Ford tractor on hand to clean up the debris.
A slightly colder day finds Bill pondering the job of trimming the grapes. A late frost in April this year killed off the crop -- Hope we have better luck this time around. These plants are also circa 1969 and are mature and well rooted.
Inspector Suki loves the outdoors, especially when her Staff is with her. Here she has climbed a nearby pergola and watches over our clean-up efforts.
She has retreated to the back of the top frame as her next-door neighbor cat (Mr. Boots) is visable hunting on the other side of the garden. She does not approve!
Searching for a way down: she finds this transit more difficult than scrambling up a large clematis vine to reach the top. After some deliberation, she decided the eight-foot jump was doable and stepped off into space. She's quite a critter!

I know it looks like everyone is just hanging out and chatting, but Genie, Barb and Priscilla were here for some sewing time too!
Priscilla worked on her wall quilt with three wonderful molas that feature medicinal themes.
Priscilla recently completed her Dancing Sprites quilt.
Barb has decided to make her vest shorter in the back and has added lots of embellishments to each panel. The background fabric on the back panel is plain black, and the pattern you see is from her lovely beading.

Some of our perennial grasses are through growing for this season, but remain on view. They present an interesting combination of texture, subdued color shades and varying heights against the fall skies.
A season's burn pile fueled by several months of shrubs, limbs, and garden debris goes up in smoke. We wait until the accumulation dries out and the wind is blowing in a manner that will not impact neighbors even though most directions are clear for several miles.
We harvested a few pounds of carrots as our last crop of the year was collected. They are hosed clean and will be refrigerated for winter use.
Inspector Suki helps with these chores, as she surveys the area from one of the five-gallon pails we use for various purposes on the farm.
She, of course, usurps same for the most important function; ie., a spot for the kitty to hide!!
